Living in La Quinta

Below you can find information and city facts about La Quinta, California.  This information is provided by Stacey Grande, La Quinta Expert! This is the city guide to La Quinta real estate for Riverside County in California. Find nightlife, housing, transportation, community and recreation information.

La Quinta Community

Located at the base of the Santa Rosa Mountains, east of Palm Springs, La Quinta is a fairly large city which nudges back into a hollow (especially on its south side) formed by Indio Mountain, 2,226 feet high, and a smaller mountain to the south. This makes for an unusually pretty setting, which is, in addition to low humidity combined with an abundance of sunshine year-round, undoubtedly why so many residents have come to the area.

The streets are clean and everything is well maintained due to the attentiveness of the many La Quintans who live there year round. Listed as one of California's fastest growing cities, La Quinta has experienced rapid growth in the past 20 years (the population having quadrupled), and continues to do so since the vast majority of its open space is so attractive to developers.

La Quinta Housing

La Quinta offers home owners everything from exclusive gated communities with lakes and golf courses to new developments designed to embody Southern California living. Walls surround subdivisions, slowing traffic on palm-lined streets and giving the neighborhoods a sense of identity. Deep in the canyon to the south you will find charming neighborhoods built in the adobe style, bordered by linear parks and dry creek beds.

La Quinta Recreation

La Quinta, whose name translates to "Country Home", got its start in 1926 when the La Quinta Resort and Club opened. This club is still in business and sets the tone with its trees and hedges, matured and shaped to seduce the eye. One public and eight private golf courses are located here, including PGA West which is internationally recognized as one of the world's most magnificent resort communities, having been the site of numerous national and professional events. Five parks, nature preserves, trails, an art festival, library, sports complex, museum, shopping along Highway 101 and Washington Street, and local recreation in individual neighborhoods (not to mention close proximity to the attractions of Palm Springs and Palm Desert) offer diverse recreational activities to La Quinta's residents and visitors alike.
